I went through the dbForge 2026.2 release notes this week and wanted to share a quick summary, because there's more in this update than the version number suggests.

This one touches a lot of ground: a brand-new PostgreSQL debugger, a smarter and more flexible database context-aware AI Assistant, new visual editors for PostgreSQL functions, procedures, and event triggers, improved object and column qualification for already written code and wildcard expansion in the SQL editor, quicker data generation from Database Explorer, and a simplified sign-in option for activation.

Starting with the biggest one: the new PostgreSQL debugger in dbForge Studio. It gives you:

  • Breakpoints, so you can pause execution at any specific line
  • Step-through execution, moving through your code line by line
  • Monitoring of the current values of variables, expressions, and query results during execution
  • Automatic highlighting of the exact line where an exception occurs

It's embedded in dbForge Studio, so there's no extension to install or separate setup to configure. This way you won't have to deal with any extensions or manual setups at all.

The AI Assistant also got a meaningful update. Context handling is much more flexible now: you can attach ready-made files instead of manually copying SQL code into your prompts, give it sample code so it matches your team's coding dbForge AI Assistant, so you can try it out without committing to a paid plan right away.

Altogether, it's a release that adds real, practical functionality rather than just incremental polish.
