Description
Duckietown is an innovative, open-source educational platform designed to make learning robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) accessible and engaging. Originating from a course at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), Duckietown combines low-cost, modular hardware—such as autonomous vehicles called Duckiebots and configurable urban environments—with comprehensive software tools and curricula. Duckiebots are equipped with a single camera and onboard processing units like Raspberry Pi or NVIDIA Jetson Nano, enabling them to perform tasks like lane following, obstacle avoidance, and city navigation without pre-programmed maps . The platform integrates simulation environments, datasets, and learning materials, supporting a wide range of users from high school students to researchers. Its mission is to democratize robotics and AI education by providing hands-on, scalable learning experiences that bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world application .
