Description
Kaboomly turns a dry physics table into something you can see. Start from space, dive into any city, and watch how far the effects of a single nuclear detonation would reach. How it works: search a city (or tap the globe), choose a preset such as Little Boy, W88, B83 or Tsar Bomba, or enter a custom yield from 0.01 kt to 100 Mt, then pick airburst or surface burst and press Detonate. A slow-motion sequence plays: flash, fireball, a 3D mushroom cloud that changes with burst type and yield, and a shock front sweeping across the buildings. The results panel lists the fireball, 20 psi, 5 psi, radiation, 3rd-degree burn and 1 psi radii (km or miles), plus how many people live inside each ring (GHSL 2020 population data: residents, not casualty estimates). Surface bursts also show an idealized fallout pattern with a fixed wind.
All estimates come from the public reference "The Effects of Nuclear Weapons" by Glasstone & Dolan (1977). It is an educational tool, not a planning or prediction tool. Scenarios can be shared as a link or embedded on another site with an iframe. Works on desktop and mobile, no account needed.
