Every dig is ten prompts, thirty seconds each: name a river, a lake, a mountain, a desert, an island, a sea, a country, a capital or a city that fits. Any real place counts, and there are thousands of right answers to every prompt. What matters is how obscure yours is. Wormillion measures obscurity by how many people read a place’s Wikipedia article each month, not by size or population, so a mid-sized river almost nobody looks up digs far deeper than the Danube, and the deeper your worm goes, the more you score. A jackpot answer, one in Wormillion, is a place in the rarest 15% of its category.

The first two rounds are plain; after that most prompts carry a condition: a region, a flag colour, a length or area threshold, a letter rule, or a theme like rivers in Mesopotamia. Misspellings are corrected rather than rejected, wrong answers cost nothing but seconds, and a skip is always available.
