Description
Kael is a distraction blocker for Mac, iOS, and Chrome/Brave/Safari with a twist: when you try to open a blocked app or site, you don't get a wall — instead, you have to articulate in 30 words why you want to use an app. Kael asks why, and Claude, who is given your schedule and upcoming events/deadlines, evaluates your reason in real time. A genuine need — "I need YouTube for my physics lecture, problem set due tonight" — gets you in, with a time budget matched to the task. "Just checking something" doesn't.How it works
Block what distracts you. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, X, Netflix — plus any app or website you add. On iOS, blocking uses Apple's Screen Time technology; on Mac, a native app and browser extensions enforce it across Chrome, Brave, and Safari.
Plead your case. Every access request requires a written reason. Kael's AI weighs it against your actual to-do list, deadlines, and calendar — it knows when your paper is due.
Time-boxed access. Approved requests grant a specific window (5–90 minutes). When your time is up, the block snaps back automatically — even if the app is open in front of you.
Reflection, not punishment. Denied? Kael asks you a short reflection question before you can try again, and tells you why your reason didn't hold up.
It adapts to your life
Kael runs on a dynamic mode engine: Focus during scheduled work blocks and approaching deadlines (stricter judge, shorter grants), Calm between classes or after hours (lenient), Sleep past your bedtime (wind-down warnings, doomscroll interrupts with tomorrow's schedule), and Balanced everywhere in between. Modes shift automatically based on your schedule, deadlines, calendar events, location, and sleep goals — no manual toggling.
Willpower is a finite resource. Kael replaces "try harder" with a system that negotiates with you honestly — strict when your deadlines demand it, relaxed when you've earned the break.
Who it's for
Students grinding through problem sets, remote workers whose office is one tab away from Reddit, and anyone whose screen time graph makes them wince. If you've ever installed a blocker and then uninstalled it the same night, Kael's judge is the friction that actually holds.
