Description

PdfCraft is a free, open-source PDF workbench developed by the ArtCraft team. Designed as an independent alternative to subscription-based PDF software, it runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD, and modern web browsers. Built from the ground up in Rust, PdfCraft also provides a WebAssembly version that works locally in the browser without uploading documents to the cloud.
The application supports essential PDF workflows, including reading, searching, copying, commenting, highlighting, filling forms, adding signatures, organizing pages, rotating or deleting pages, inserting and moving pages, combining documents, splitting files, and protecting sensitive content. It can open encrypted PDFs and preserve encryption when files are saved.
PdfCraft is designed for privacy-conscious users, students, home users, professionals, legal teams, clinics, finance departments, Linux users, and developers. It requires no account, includes no telemetry, and does not depend on a cloud service. Developers and AI agents can also use its command-line tools and optional MCP server for automated PDF inspection and editing.
The project is currently alpha software. Advanced features such as reliable editing of existing text, Office document conversion, and broader multilingual OCR remain under development. Even so, PdfCraft already offers a practical, lightweight, and transparent solution for everyday PDF reading, organization, annotation, and document management.
